I think if youre in the price range of those 2 you might be better off going with a d5000. I do believe it records video. Ive got the d90 and I love it. The d90 might be a bit more but has tons more features and also can use almost all modern nikon AF lenses. The d3000 uses AF-s lense which has the focus motor built into the lens. the d90 has the focus motor built into the camera as well as can use the af-s lenses.
32 or 38 is your best choice
25 will create smaller curls, like taylor swift.
also, don't leave the curling tong around your hair for too long. it depends on how well your hair holds curl. try to keep it on your hair for 8 seconds and see what kind of curl that gives you, experiment a little until you get the curls you want.
also, use mousse on your hair before curling it, it will help your hair hold curl and give it that certain "texture" you're looking for

you can put starch on the clothing, but make sure it's light starch. you dont want it coming out like the ironing board. and also when you iron, make sure the setting on the iron is set to the fabric that your clothes are made out of.
Of course, you can iron with out an ironing board, any hard flat surface is good. You can also iron on your bed.
